Top 10 foods from my travels in 2013

Of course one of the best parts of travel is the food, and I've had more than my share of good food on my trips this year. Below is my personal list of the top 10 foods I've had while traveling this year. 

I set a rule for myself to not include anything from my hometown of St. Louis, so these are the best foods I've had while actually on the road. (Note: My personal taste leans towards casual local food, so you won't see any steak or lobster tails on my list!)

Today was quite a day, so this will be a long blog post...

It's now 6 PM and we are still recovering from a 6 hour food tour in the Old City. The tour took us to places in the city we never would have found on our own and introduced us to a ton of interesting food as well.

We booked a tour thought Istanbul Eats, and our guide was Connie, a German journalist who has lived in Istanbul for 9 years. She writes for the Guardian and is a tour guide on the side.

Thurs, Sept 16 (Day 2 - Continued)

Took taxi to Piazza Navonna, walked around.

Dinner at Da Francesco - best Italian food ever. Caprese salad, bread, chianti classico, penna all'arrabbiata, pizza margerita. Amazing. I think we were the only non-Italians in the restaurant.

Wednesday (Day 1)

Taxi to hotel, check in.

Out to dinner at al Vero Girarrosto Toscano.

Thursday (Day 2)

Relaxing breakfast in hotel. We probably sat for an hour... drank coffee, talked, planned our day, people watched (lots of interesting people, including one middle eastern family having lavash with breakfast).  I just wanted to have a relaxing morning to help recover a bit from the tiring 24 hours of travel yesterday.
