So... here's what we did in Italy on days 5-9.
Sun, Sept 19 (Day 5)
Breakfast in hotel
Taxi to Trastevere, walked around and visited the main church there.
Walking around, visiting shops. Liked the Bodum shop. Stopped for coffee and water.
More walking, more coffee at a corner bar... only Italians there. Good peoplewatching.
Walk back across river and to a big home / kitchen store we saw earlier.Read More
I just had one of the best dishes of the entire trip: pumpkin filled tortellini with a thick balsamic vinegar sauce... As thick as melted chocolate. Bologna is well known for its tortellini but this was just incredible.Read More
I'm sitting in a small coffeeshop around the corner from our hotel... Just finished a cappuccino, a pastry and an espresso. Just waking up... watching all the locals stop in for coffee on their way to work. At least 50 people must have come in and out in the 45 minutes I've been sitting here. Most have their coffee and pastry standing up at the counter, a few sit down to talk to friends or read the paper. No one has a laptop... it's a very different experience than in the US. Everyone seems to be getting just caffe (espresso) or cappuccino. No giant lattes like in the US.Read More
Right now we are finishing up an incredible lunch in Bologna: bread and olive oil, ricotta and spinach tortellini with bolognese sauce, eggplant parmesan and 2 glasses of Lambrusco wine. Followed by an espresso, of course. Everything was really delicious.
We are enjoying Bologna... Very few tourists, lots of shops, restaurants, coffee bars, a street of food shops (that we will visit tomorrow) and a hotel suite that we are very comfortable in.Read More
