Inspired by two generations of travel agents in my family before me, I joined the travel industry in 2003. For ten years I was Operations Manager at Lexington Group, a group and incentive travel company, where I was responsible for contracting, planning and executing more than a hundred group travel programs.
I launched Kevin Dern Travel in 2013 and love working for myself. I'm an independent travel consultant, affiliated with Protravel International, one of the largest travel companies in the United States. I'm also proud to be a member of Virtuoso, the world's leading luxury travel network. My affiliation with these organizations gives me a network of travel industry contacts around the world, as well as preferred status with all major hotel companies, cruise lines, and tour companies.
I'm also an amateur photographer and love to take photos when I travel. (All the photos on this site are mine.) You can see more of my work here. I'm currently shooting with an Olympus OMD E-M5 (usually with an Olympus 17mm f1.8 prime lens) and an iPhone 6.
When I'm not working or taking photos, you can probably find me at a coffeeshop or home with my wife and son in St. Louis, Missouri (probably still with a coffee in my hand). You can connect with me online at Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram.
Some of my favorite travel experiences
Discovering huevos moteleños at a diner in Merida, Mexico and eating it three days in a row.
Browsing through the most amazing collection of pens and writing supplies in a Tokyo department store.
Taking nearly a thousand photos in a day while happily lost in the streets of Venice.
Shopping in street markets such as the Carmel Market in Tel Aviv, the Grand Bazaar in Istanbul, the Chatachuk Market in Bangkok, and Mercado 23 in Cancun, where my friend Jorge helped me sample the street food.
Sitting at a sidewalk cafe and just watching the people go by - whether in Rome, Istanbul, New York or Chicago.
Eating way more gelato in Florence than I should have.
